Or "The Abduction from the Seraglio." This is a wonderful farce, written at a time when all things Turkish were all the rage in Vienna. This is one of my first professional productions, produced by Bronx Opera Co. in 1999. The director chose to keep the exotic setting of the libretto, but to take us inside the world of the harem. I think we succeeded in achieving a feeling of exoticism and decadence within tight budgetary constraints. | ||||||||
