This production, for which I designed the sets and co-designed the costumes, was produced by Light Opera Oklahoma (Tulsa) in 2002. The production concept is Paris in the 1930's--about 20 years later than the original setting of the story, but equally fitting. The visual inspiration was the glamorous, dreamlike production style of Hollywood musical films of the 1930's. The palette was largely black and white, the men in white waistcoats and the women in sleek, bias-cut gowns. The Grisettes in Act III were leggy chorus girls with identical hair and make-up. Their dance number was an homage to the stylish, imaginitive choreography of Busby Berkeley. | ||||
